Movies to See at TIFF 2017

A slate of 14 Galas and 33 Special Presentations has been announced for the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival with 25 World Premieres taking place including closing night film C’est la vie! by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano which chronicles all of the mishaps of orchestrating a wedding party as well as the English language remake of the French filmmaking duo’s acclaimed The Intouchables helmed this time around by Neil Burger, and starring Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart. Cinematic contributions from Canada, USA, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, India, Chile, Egypt and Cambodia will all be represented with new directorial efforts by Hany Abu-Assad, Stephen Frears, Deniz Gamze Ergüven, Anurag Kashyap, Mélanie Laurent, Hansal Mehta, and Wim Wenders.

The final concert tour of The Tragically Hip gets recognized with the documentary Long Time Running, Mary Shelley has Elle Fanning portraying the author responsible for creating Frankenstein, American filmmaker Susanna White explores the relationship between Sitting Bull and confidante Catherine Weldon in Woman Walks Ahead, a ballplayer becomes a government operative in The Catcher Was a Spy starring Paul Rudd, I, Tonya chronicles the cutthroat antics of figure skater Tonya Harding with Margot Robbie taking centre ice, the Cold War encounters a monstrous love story envisioned by Guillermo del Toro in The Shape of Water, and George Clooney reunites with the Coen brothers directing their script for family caper comedy Suburbicon featuring Matt Damon, Oscar Isaac and Julianne Moore.
