The Swimmers – Watch the new trailer for Sally El Hosaini’s film

Netflix has released the new trailer for The Swimmers, directed by Sally El Hosaini and based on the incredible true story of two young sisters who inspired the world.

Based on a true story, THE SWIMMERS follows the journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics. Two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use.

The film is helmed by Welsh Egyptian director/writer, Sally El Hosaini, whose last film My Brother the Devil (2013) premiered at Sundance Film Festival winning the World Cinema Cinematography: Dramatic prize before securing El Hosaini the Best British Newcomer prize at the BFI London Film Festival and Best European Film at Berlinale.

The roles of Yusra and Sarah Mardini are played by Lebanese actresses and real-life sisters, Manal and Nathalie Issa. The film also stars Ahmed Malek, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ali Suliman, Kinda Alloush, James Krishna Floyd and Elmi Rashid Elmi.

The film opens in UK cinemas this November and then Netflix on 23rd November 2022.
