The Liberation is directed by Guy Nattiv, co-written with Noa Berman-Herzberg, and inspired by real events from the life of Nattiv’s own grandmother

Rita (Carrie Coon), a woman in midlife haunted by the weight of her past, encounters magnetic young spiritual leader Ricki (Lily James) and leaves her family to follow her to an all-female commune. But when her daughters Ella (Bella Ramsey) and Jo (Odessa Young) arrive unexpectedly and become drawn into the group’s seductive world, Rita is forced to choose between the family she left behind and the life she believes can save her.

Hillary saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival and said, “the film finds the emotional weight necessary to balance its dark premise with a profound sense of grace.” You can read her full review here.

The Liberation gets a limited theatrical release in the US on 6 November 2026, before going into wide theatrical release in the United States by Bleecker Street on 8 January 2027.
