Hellboy Hype – How to Enjoy this Awesome Character in Anticipation for the New Film

The Hellboy film series is about to get rebooted, looking to breathe fresh life into the superhero genre for those who feel fed up with the continuous flow of Marvel offerings. The film, directed by Neil Marshall, is scheduled for release in January 2019, so there is still a while to wait. But with big names on the cast list and a team of world-renowned writers, the relaunch of this legendary character is set to be a big one.

Hellboy was created by Mike Mignola and first appeared in the San Diego Comic-Con Comics in 1993. The formidable character was an instant hit in the comic world, which led to two live-action films being made in 2004 and 2008. Both pictures were directed by esteemed auteur Guillermo del Toro and starred Ron Perlman as the big red beast. They received favourable reviews but were not massive box office sensations like many superhero titles of today. Hellboy brought in $99.3 million worldwide, while Hellboy II: The Golden Army made $160 million at the box office.

The upcoming Hellboy film is rumoured to be a reboot of the franchise, so it will follow its storyline rather than retell one of the older offerings. It was originally going to be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, but in 2017, the developers dropped this title, and it is now referred to simply as Hellboy. David Harbour is taking over from Pearlman in the title role, and the actor will certainly bring a likeability factor to the character. Harbour will be remembered most recently for his exceptional performances in Stranger Things, which earned him nominations for a Primetime Emmy award in 2017 and a Golden Globe Award in 2018.

If you want to get as prepared as possible for the upcoming Neil Marshall offering, which also features Ian McShane as Trevor Bruttenholm, there are numerous ways to do so. Reading the comics and watching the previous two films would be a good place to start, but playing games and getting into the mind of the character would be an even better option.

The Hellboy slot at Casumo features iconic boy on the reels and gives players a chance to win some money while reminding themselves of Hellboy’s allies and adversaries. There is also the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 title Hellboy: The Science of Evil, which was released in 2008 and drew inspiration from both the comics and the film adaptations. For a more retro gaming feel, check out the Kickstarter project currently running for Hellboy: The Board Game, which allows players to investigate crimes as members of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence.

In 2019, when Hellboy squares off against Milla Jovavich’s Blood Queen, Lionsgate Films could usher in a newer, darker age of superhero movie. Let’s just hope that this reboot is a bigger hit commercially than its predecessors. If so, it could lead to many more offerings in this awesome franchise.
