Bumblebee – Watch the trailer for the Transformers spin-off

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmail

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings), the film stars Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen), Pamela Adlon (Better Things), John Cena (Daddy’s Home 2), Stephen Schneider (Comedy Central’s Broad City), Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Jason Drucker (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul), Kenneth Choi (American Crime Story), Ricardo Hoyos (Degrassi: Next Class), Abby Quinn (Landline), Rachel Crow (Deidra & Laney Rob a Train), and Grace Dzienny (Zoo).

Could this finally give us that 1980s Transformers style movie we’ve been waiting for or will it just be a Michael Bay visual overload? The fact Starscream is in it and both he and Bumblebee look like their old cartoon counterparts does light a little glimmer of hope in this jaded heart. It takes me back to when I first saw the Transformers cartoon. I was 11 and on holiday at Disney World, Florida. It had been a long day of too much fun. Back at the hotel, I put on the TV and flicked through the channels. Suddenly there was Optimus Prime telling other robots to roll out and then they transformed! Ah, sweet memories that I hold onto tightly everytime a new Transformers movie heads our way.

Bumblebee is due out in December 2018.

  1. You know, this resonated in a way I didn’t dare hope for! Finally, a Transformers film seemingly filled with pathos and fun.

    • Yes, it is rather odd to have that feeling with one of these modern Transformer movies. We shall have to wait and see what the full film is like
