The new Spawn movie is heading our way from Todd Mcfarlane and Blumhouse Productions

Todd McFarlane has been talking about a new Spawn film for years. Michael Jai White originally played the comic book character back in 1997, and it finally seems like things are moving ahead for the new version.

Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions are teaming up with McFarlane to develop a new movie. McFarlane has written the first draft of the script and it seems he may be directing the film as well. He made the announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The character was first introduced in 1992 in Spawn #1, and followed former Force Recon Marine Al Simmons, who was killed and sent to hell. After making a pact with one of Hell’s rulers, Malebolgia, he’s returned to Earth in a demonic form to fight crime, demons, angels, and eventually Heaven and Hell themselves.

Blumhouse has been on a good run recently. The likes of Split, Get Out and more have done rather well at the box office and they are definitely a good choice to work on Spawn. However, is there still an audience for a Spawn movie? If done right and they amp up the horror then it would be a different take on the current crop of comic book movies.

What do you want to see in a Spawn film?
