My top three sci-fi movies and why I love them

Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 film Back to The Future is one of the all-time best sci-fi movies ever. It has made an impact on many generations, and when we actually reached the year 2015, which was the “future” in the movie, the whole world remembered. However, we didn’t have flying cars, hoverboards, or anything like what was predicted. The film appealed to our desire to time travel, to be able to go back to the past or see the future.

BTTF did it with a family-friendly story. Some people will say they don’t like science fiction, yet they watched Back to The Future not even realizing this was indeed sci-fi. The performances of Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown took the script to a whole new level, elevating Fox’s career into the stratosphere and solidifying Christopher Lloyd as a movie star. The film also launched a franchise with installments two and three.

In the original movie, Marty Mcfly goes back in time to save his parents’ relationship, ensuring his forthcoming existence. Mad scientist Doc Brown made a time machine out of a DeLorean car with such style, it went down in film history. When it comes to seeing the past and future self and wondering how you got there, this film gets you thinking.

James Cameron’s 1991 Terminator 2 Judgement Day is another top sci-fi movie not to miss. With Arnold Schwarzenegger storming the screen in this masterpiece, we caught a glimpse of a world where artificial intelligence takes a strong hold of society. This film has always been thought of as something that could only happen in the far off, but as the years roll by it becomes more pertinent. With the introduction of robots, what if life is an imitation art and the depiction is far more accurate of a future we are already in? While the media won’t outwardly tell us that we are living in the times of great advancement, we see it in the realm of our most beloved films.

With catch phrases like “I’ll be back” the film has taken its place among the most original and watched sci-fi movies of all time. Generation after generation has watched this movie and it has stood the test of time. Even with today’s special effects, this film holds up entertaining a new audience every year as kids come of age.

When The Matrix came out in 1999, we were glued to the screen. We still talk about the blue pill and the red pill to this day. When Keanu Reeves, starring as Neo, receives a cryptic message on his computer screen, it turns his whole life upside down. Personal computers were just going mainstream, and it coincided with our fascination with the digital world. When computer hacker Neo finds out we are all living in a simulated world, trapped in pods and stripped of our humanity, he makes a choice. Laurence Fishburn’s character Morpheus hands him a red pill and a blue one. The blue one would make him forget what he’d seen and go back to living his life in oblivion, but the red pill would reveal the truth.

Neo takes the red pill, now symbolic of knowing the truth in society. He joins the rebellion and goes down the rabbit hole. With an attachment to his neck, he entered a world he never imagined, learning new skills in minutes. He was sent there to save the world as we know it but realized it was forever changed. Moviegoers couldn’t get enough. Nothing like this had ever been done and it catapulted Reeves’ career. Three more movie sequels followed and now in 2025, we are seeing how realistic the virtual world can be. Something we never imagined prior to the year 2000. Without revealing the ending, The Matrix left room for parts 2, 3, and 4.

Sci-fi movies challenge us to think more deeply about our reality and what can be achieved. We are moving faster than ever with technology and some of these movie plots seem more realistic than ever. The sign of a good movie is when it is remembered for decades to come and when it has a plot that rings true. The above three films have done just that.

Now, if you’ve got a killer idea for a sci-fi script, there is a professional writing service that can help you bring it to the screen. Step one for any movie is the script. One high-profile actor after another will say that everything starts with the script. Some of them will say, “The script, the script, the script.” Ghostwriters Central, Inc., has been in business since 2002, and has been providing screenwriting services since then, and they also act as script doctors, which means they fix problematic scripts. Writing is an art, and we have the artists under contract. Come visit today. Click the link. Thanks for reading.
