Once Upon A Time in Uganda – The Wild Documentary on Wakaliwood Action Filmmaking gets a UK release date

Set in the heart of Uganda, two unlikely friends from opposite sides of the world unite over their shared love of Chuck Norris and gonzo 80s action flicks. With sheer determination and an outrageous sense of humour, they team up to create their own explosive movies, catapulting Wakaliwood to international stardom and bringing laughter and joy to millions. This documentary is a wild ride where you can definitely ‘expect the unexpectable’.

Directed by Cathryne Czubek, Once Upon a Time in Uganda documents the explosive rise of an outrageous new genre of action cinema that has captured the imagination of film fans around the world. Once Upon A Time in Uganda was nominated for SXSW 2020’s Grand Jury Award and won the Grand Jury Prize at DOC NYC 2021, before screening at the Glasgow Film Festival in 2022.

Once Upon A Time in Uganda is in cinemas from 5 September. The film will also screen at Odeon cinemas nationwide on 5 September + recorded Q&A with Wakaliwood filmmaker Isaac Nabwana.
