Introducing Dungeons and Dragons

If the incredible reviews and the 93% Rotten Tomatoes score is anything to go by Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is a film not to be missed! You don’t have long to wait before you can enjoy this critically acclaimed film at home because it’s available to Download & Keep from 7th July and it’s available on DVD, Blu-ray™, 4K UHD™ and 4K UHD™ + Blu-ray™ SteelBook® from 31st July.

The hilarious and action-packed adventure sees charming thief (Chris Pine) join a band of unlikely adventurers (Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis) and undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people (Daisy Head and Hugh Grant).

The film draws you into an immersive world full of magical creatures, epic fight scenes and stunning visual effects. It’s a world based on the Dungeons and Dragons game – a game recently brought into the spotlight through the cult TV show Stranger Things.

You don’t need to play Dungeons & Dragons to enjoy the film, but the film may inspire you to play the game if you don’t already. Created in 1974 and commonly known as D&D, the classic tabletop role-playing game has a dedicated fanbase and is enjoyed by millions. Anyone can learn to play and have a great time, you just need to set up your character and fantasy world, fill it with magic, monsters and adventure and embark on epic quests with your friends.

Here’s how…

Get started – To play, you’ll need a few things: a set of dice, a character sheet (can be download for free online) and a group of friends to play with. The game is typically played with a Dungeon Master (DM), who acts as the game’s narrator and controls the monsters and other non-player characters.

Create a character – This first step involves choosing your character’s race, class, ability scores (such as strength and intelligence) and equipment. You may wish to buy ‘The Player’s Handbook’ which provides detailed instructions for character creation.

Get playing – Once your character is created, the game begins. The DM will describe the setting and the situation, and players take turns describing their actions and rolling dice to determine the outcome. The game is open-ended, and players can choose to do anything they want within the limits of the game world.

It’s that simple! Here are some other things you might want to know:

  • Combat is a big part of D&D and the roll of a dice determines whether an attack is a hit or miss and how much damage it causes. The DM describes the action and the players describe their characters’ responses.
  • You can gain experience points and move up levels as you progress through the game allowing your character to gain new powers and improve their abilities. The DM also gives out rewards (like treasure!) for completing quests and defeating monsters.
  • D&D is a social game and players are encouraged to work together and collaborate in order to achieve their goals – it’s all about problem-solving so bring your wit and skill to overcome challenges and complete quests.
  • There is no limit to the creativity – explore your imagination and create your own story and immersive fantasy world.

So, gather your friends, roll some dice, and embark on your own epic adventure in the world of D&D.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is available to Download & Keep 7th July and on DVD, Blu-ray™, 4K UHD™ and 4K UHD™ + Blu-ray™ SteelBook® from 31st July.
