Return To Silent Hill begins production in April

Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, War Horse) and Hannah Emily Anderson (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Jigsaw) will star in the new psychological horror Return to Silent Hill. Christophe Gans (Beauty and the Beast, Brotherhood of The Wolf), director of the first Silent Hill feature, is returning to reprise his role at the helm of this next installment in the film franchise. Written by Gans, Sandra Vo-Anh (Beauty and the Beast) and William Josef Schneider, Return to Silent Hill is based on Silent Hill 2, the second and most popular game in KONAMI’s successful video game series.

The film follows James, a man broken after being separated from his one true love. When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and hold on long enough to save his lost love.

Return to Silent Hill is produced by Victor Hadida (upcoming The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs, Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises) under his Davis Films banner. Also behind the production are Hassell Free Productions’ Molly Hassell (upcoming The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs, Terminal starring Margot Robbie, Braven starring Jason Momoa) and David Wulf (Call Jane, The Card Counter, Inheritance).

Production is set to start in April in Germany and Eastern Europe. The Veterans are handling international sales, with CAA Media Financing repping domestic rights.

“Return to Silent Hill is a mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to hell to save someone,” explained director Christophe Gans. “I’m delighted to have the wonderful talents of both Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that I hope will both satisfy and surprise fans of SILENT HILL.”

“Christophe and I have been working closely with our partners at KONAMI, as they update the video game, to also create a version of SILENT HILL for the theatrical audiences of today,” said producer Victor Hadida. “You will still find the iconic monsters – but there will also be new designs. We are confident that this new film and KONAMI’s updated game together will propel the SILENT HILL franchise forward for years to come.”

SILENT HILL 2 is the second installment of KONAMI’s popular video game series. Originally released in 2001 for PlayStation 2, SILENT HILL 2 is widely considered the best game in the series. In October 2022, KONAMI announced three new games in the SILENT HILL series were in production: SILENT HILL: Downfall; SILENT HILL: f; and a reboot of SILENT HILL 2.

French filmmaker Christophe Gans directed the hit 2006 adaptation of the beloved horror video game SILENT HILL starring Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean. His additional directing credits include the action-adventure film Brotherhood of the Wolf starring Mark Dacascos, Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel and the adaptation of the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast starring Vincent Cassel and Léa Seydoux.

Jeremy Irvine gained notice for his leading role as Albert in Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award nominated film War Horse. He later went on to star in the drama The Railway Man alongside Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, the horror sequel The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death with Helen McCrory and as Young Sam in the smash-hit musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. He was recently seen in Roadside Attractions’ biographical drama Benediction, Sky Cinema’s romantic comedy This is Christmas, and the Bourne action TV series spin-off, Treadstone.

Hannah Emily Anderson first became known for her portrayal of Eleanor Bonneville in Jigsaw, the eighth film in the iconic Saw franchise. She then went on to star in USA Network’s drama series “The Purge” based on the franchise of the same name as well as the film What Keeps You Alive, and joined the X-Men universe alongside Sophie Turner as Elaine Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Irvine is repped by UTA, Independent Talent Group, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham. Anderson is repped by The Gersh Agency, Atlas Artists, and GGA.
