"No matter where you go, there you are."

Watch Brian Cox, Jodie Turner-Smith and John Cena in the trailer for The Independent

The official trailer released today for Sky Original film The Independent, featuring the award-winning star of Succession, Brian Cox and break-out British star Jodie Turner-Smith in a nail-biting tale of political skulduggery and the race to expose corruption at the highest level of US politics.

Starring Brian Cox (Succession), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen and Slim), John Cena (The Suicide Squad) and Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), THE INDEPENDENT is the story of a budding investigative journalist Eli (Turner-Smith) who uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the very foundations of Washington D.C.

It’s the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election campaign in US history. America is poised to elect either its first female president (Ann Dowd) or finally break the country’s two-party gridlock with its first viable independent candidate (John Cena). Reporting history as it’s made, an idealistic young journalist (Jodie Turner-Smith) gets an opportunity to work with her idol, veteran Washington political columnist Nick Booker (Brian Cox). Eli is pursuing a story about budget cuts and by following the money she and Booker uncover a financial conspiracy that places the fate of the election, the country, and democracy in their hands.

The Independent is directed by Amy Rice and written by Evan Parter. David Robbins, Lex Miron, Michael Arrieta and Marc Danon (Relativity Media), Blair Ward and Anders Erdén (Orogen Entertainment) Julia Stuart and Laura Grange (Sky) serve as executive producers, along with Lance Acord, Jackie Kelman Bisbee, Cody Ryder (Park Pictures), Brian O’Shea, Nat McCormick, and Giovanna Trischitta (The Exchange), Charles Stiefel (Needle’s Eye Productions).

Sam Bisbee (Park Pictures), Thea Dunlap, Caddy Vanasirikul (The Exchange), Ryan Cunningham (Anonymous Content), and Evan Parter are producing. The film was financed by Sky and Orogen Entertainment.
