Harry Melling and Christian Bale star star in the film adaptation of Louis Bayard’s The Pale Blue Eye. Scott Cooper (Hostiles, Out of the Furnace, Antlers) is directing the adaptation of the Gothic thriller.

Netflix released the first image from the film.

So begins the chilling last testament of Gus Landor, a retired New York City police constable, whose numerous talents include code-breaking, riot control and the ‘gloveless interrogation’. A young cadet has been found hanged at a military academy on the shores of the Hudson River. Before his body could be buried, however, it was stolen and his heart brutally carved out.

Fearing a scandal, the top brass at West Point have summoned Landor to help catch the culprit, and keep his discoveries away from prying eyes. As Landor embarks on a thrilling adventure to solve the case, he uncovers a series of dark secrets and finds unlikely assistance in the form of a mischievous young cadet named Edgar Allan Poe.

Melling is playing Poe and Bale will be the police constable.

The film also stars Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, Hadley Robinson, Joey Brooks, Brennan Keel Cook, Gideon Glick, Fred Hechinger, Matt Helm, Steven Maier, Charlie Tahan and Robert Duvall.

Cooper and Bale are producing the film with John Lesher of Grisbi Productions and Tyler Thompson of Cross Creek Pictures, with Grisbi’s Dylan Weathered exec producing alongside Tracey Landon.

The Pale Blue Eye
comes to select cinemas on 23rd December 2022. It will then stream on Netflix on 6th January 2023.
