The Super Mario Bros animated movie gets Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and more

Mario is the video game character created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. He has appeared in many different video games, cartoons, and the ill-fated 1993 live-action film that saw Bob Hoskins behind the moustache.

Mario has been voiced by Charles Martinet since 1992, starting with Mario’s Game Gallery and later Super Mario 64.

Now Nintendo and Illumination have joined forces to bring us a new animated film, Super Mario Bros.: The Movie, and the main voice cast has been revealed:

  • Chris Pratt – Mario
  • Anya Taylor-Joy – Peach
  • Charlie Day – Luigi
  • Jack Black – Bowser
  • Keegan Michael Key – Toad
  • Seth Rogen – Donkey Kong

Hell, if Ryan Reynolds can voice Pikachu then Pratt can be Mario! Plus he was good at voicing the lead character in the Lego movies, which also featured Charlie Day. Personally, I would have liked the entire cast of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia to have voiced the main characters.

The producers said that each actor was cast for their ability to capture the unique spirit of each of their iconic characters.

The film is due out on 21st December 2022.
