There is a reboot of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Eraser heading our way

Here is a reboot that nobody really asked for or thought of – 1996’s Eraser. The original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vanessa Williams and James Caan. It made $240 million off an estimated $100M budget and even had an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Effects.

The new version is called Eraser: Reborn and was filmed this summer.

According to Deadline, the film was directed by John Pogue (Deep Blue Sea 3) and stars Dominic Sherwood (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), Jacky Lai (V-Wars), McKinley Belcher III (Ozark) and Eddie Ramos (Animal Kingdom).

The film follows U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard who specializes in engineering the fake deaths of witnesses that need to leave no trace of their existence.

I actually rewatched the original film a few years back and it was actually pretty good, but rather generic. The basic concept of faking the death of witnesses was good and I always felt it would have worked better as a TV show.

The movie is now in post-production and is due out in spring 2022.

Do we need a reboot of Eraser? Not really, but it could lead to an enjoyable action romp.

What are your thoughts on the new film being made?
