Dead Space

Electronic Arts studio Motive announced during EA Play Live that the sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space will be remade from the ground up. It will be developed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, with an improved story and characters along with revamped gameplay mechanics.

Dead Space follows engineer Isaac Clarke as he fights to repair a vast spaceship where the crew has been slaughtered and infected by an alien scourge, all while his wife is missing aboard the ship.

“The Dead Space franchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game,” said Philippe Ducharme, senior producer of Dead Space. “We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we’ve reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well.”

True Spirit

Netflix has set the adult cast of their upcoming Australian family movie True Spirit with Anna Paquin, Cliff Curtis and Josh Lawson.

True Spirit is based on the true story of Jessica Watson, a 16-year-old Australian who in 2010 became the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop and unassisted around the world. She accomplished what many thought impossible, navigating some of the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean and surviving seven knockdowns while at sea for 210 days. Watson will consult on the biopic.

The trio join previously announced Teagan Croft, who’ll portray Watson. Paquin is set to play Jessica’s mum, Julie Watson; Lawson is Jessica’s dad, Roger Watson, and Curtis is Jessica’s coach, Ben Bryant – Deadline

Batgirl

Leslie Grace (In the Heights) is joining the DC Universe as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. There is no word as to whether this will be linked to The Batman movie or if it will just be yet another standalone DC movie from Warner Bros.

Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, from a script by Christina Hodson, the DC mainstay behind Birds of Prey and The Flash. Kristin Burr is producing.

The film is thought to be hitting HBO Mx in 2023 – THR

Dune: The Sisterhood

Dune: The Sisterhood, based on Frank Herbert’s classic novel Dune and the popular sci-fi franchise, received a straight-to-series order from the WarnerMedia streaming service.

Herbert’s Dune portrays a future in which humanity has spread across the galaxy to thousands of worlds, all ruled by the Padishah Emperor, The Imperium. Dune: The Sisterhood explores this universe through the eyes of a mysterious order of women: the Bene Gesserit – Deadline

Jerry And Marge Go Large

The Kaiju Score

Brian and Mark Gunn are set to adapt the screenplay for Sony Pictures and Escape Artists’ The Kaiju Score based on the AfterShock Comics’ series by James Patrick and artist Rem Broo.

It follows a gang of thieves as they undertake a heist in a city that is being attacked by a giant monster. I love that concept.

“The Kaiju Score is a Quentin Tarantino film taking place in some corner of a Godzilla movie,” writer James Patrick said. “You have this giant canvas of a kaiju attack occurring, and as it happens there’s this more personal story going on. And after that setup, it explores how these four characters, who are in just the worst situation in their lives, believe the only way out is to do this impossible thing. This crazy crime. It’s about that desperation.”

Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing, along with Tony Shaw who initially brought the property into Sony. AfterShock Media’s Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer will also produce – Deadline

Nope

Jordan Peele’s (Get Out, Us) next film is called Nope. Due out in 2021 it reunites Peele with Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya (get Out). The film also stars Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea and Michael Wincott. Little else is known about Nope.

Nope is due to hit theaters July 22, 2022.

The Last of Us

Anna Torv (Fringe) has joined the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us in the role of Tess opposite Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The series, based on the widely popular 2014 PlayStation game of the same name, hails from Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and The Last Of Us creator Neil Druckmann.

The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Torv will recur as Tess, a smuggler and hardened survivor in a post-pandemic world. In the original video game Tess works with Joel to survive and smuggle weapons in and out of Boston. She also accompanies Joel on the seemingly impossible mission to smuggle Ellie to the Fireflies.

The show also stars TLOU voice actress Merle Dandrige, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce, Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill – Deadline
