Dwayne Johnson is rebooting The Scorpion King with Universal Pictures
It was The Scorpion King character from The Mummy Returns that kickstarted Dwayne Johnson’s movie career. Since then he was done rather well and so he has been looking back on what started it all and wants to reboot it. Universal Pictures and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions are working with him to relaunch a new Scorpion King movie and Jonathan Herman will write the script. Johnson and Garcia will produce along with Seven Bucks’ Hiram Garcia.
The main difference this time, apart from Johnson not playing the character, is that it will be moved from ancient times and will instead “be a contemporary take set in modern times” according to Deadline.
Dany Garcia had this to say about the project.
So far Johnson will just be producing and will not be starring in the film so a new actor will be playing The Scorpion King.
To be honest, I have got no problem with The Scorpion King getting a reboot. I am not quite sure about bringing it to the present day as I do like the old pulp sensibilities of The Mummy films that spawned the character.
