The Best Vegas Comedy Movies

Over the years a large number of movies that have Vegas as the central theme got released to the public thanks to the city’s entertaining reputation. Usually, these movies were either fully gambling focused like the Ocean’s franchise or comedy focused.

Comedy movies have built a great culture over the years, and when you add typical Vegas elements like partying, gambling, and luxury, to a funny story, you can surely get a blockbuster. We are trying to highlight in this article only the best comedy movies that either has Vegas as the central theme or are taking place in this city.

The Hangover

Even if this list is not necessarily in a particular order, The Hangover is still at the top because of this movie’s brilliant story, great acting, and overall funny theme. With a cast that includes top actors such as Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Ken Jeong, the movie was anticipated to be a big success from the beginning.

The Hangover is presenting Vegas in an innovative way while taking the viewer on a unique journey. After a night of experiencing the city’s entertainment opportunities at a bachelor party, three guys have to find their lost friend before his wedding begins. With no memory from the night before, the characters are in for an unexpected rollercoaster ride.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Even if Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is not the most comedy centered movie in the world, because of the fascinating way this movie captures the Vegas lifestyle it surely deserves a position high on our list. The movie mostly captures Raoul Duke’s attempts of discovering the American dream. Just like in the highly acclaimed movie From Dusk Till Dawn, where the Gecko brothers are constantly traveling the American soil. In Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo are exploring Las Vegas and a few local events.

Raoul Duke is a character based on Hunter S. Thompson, the author of the book that holds the same title as this movie. Johnny Depp, a big fan of Thompson’s work, is the actor behind Duke in this movie, giving the story an authentic feel since he met Thompson countless times in real life.

Last Vegas

Even if all of the main characters are probably best known for their dramatic and award-winning roles from other movies, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline still manage to put up an amusing act.

Similar in this fashion to The Hangover, Last Vegas illustrates the journey of four friends in Vegas, while being there for a bachelor party. As their last friend is going to get engaged, the four have to celebrate big like they are thirty years younger each, and what other place is better for that than Vegas.

Vegas Vacation

Even if a fairly older movie, Vegas Vacation includes funny concepts throughout the whole movie, making this cinematic piece still relevant more than twenty years since its release. This movie has some of the funniest gambling scenes in the world while showcasing the Griswolds gambling.

The brilliant music, and hilarious gambling scenes with Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, turns this movie into a timeless comedy masterpiece. While gambling, enjoying top entertainment and exploring Las Vegas, the Griswolds are putting up for a hilarious show.

Get Him to the Greek

From the producers of some of the most hilarious movies ever, Get Him to the Greek is another brilliant movie with a great cast and a funny storyline. The collaboration between Russell Brand and Jonah Hill ends up creating a stimulating movie that can make anybody smile through its smart humor.

From the Vegas parties, on their way to the show, the two main characters end up becoming friends and having a lot of fun experiences together. What makes this movie so great is Russell Brand’s performance since the actor’s role very much resembles Brand’s former lifestyle.

Conclusion

The five movies showcased above are some of the best comedy movies that have Vegas as a central theme, and this city’s lifestyle and opportunities. Each of these movies is illustrating the gambling, nightlife, and entertainment that comes with Vegas in an innovative and purely hilarious way.
