Doctor Strange 2
While we wait for the Endgame to play out, Scott Derrickson, who directed and co-wrote 2016’s Doctor Strange, has finalized a deal to direct the sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange as will Benedict Wong who played Wong. Rachel McAdams is likely to return as well – THR
6 Underground
Netflix and Skydance Media, in association with Bay Films, have completed principal photography in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 6 Underground, the action-adventure feature film directed by Michael Bay and starring Ryan Reynolds. 6 Underground is based on an original idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and Paul Wernick (Zombieland), who both worked on Deadpool and Deadpool 2.
The Guilty
Bold Films, Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories banner have acquired the rights to remake the Danish thriller The Guilty, with Gyllenhaal attached to star. It follows a police officer under investigation, who’s demoted to desk work at an emergency call center. When he receives a terrified phone call from a kidnapped woman, he must battle his internal demons in order to save her. The film won the world cinema audience award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival – Variety
Sally Potter’s new untitled feature
Javier Bardem, Elle Fanning, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock and Laura Linney join writer-director Sally Potter’s (The Party, Orlando) latest film. Production is underway in Spain on the untitled feature, which is being repped worldwide by HanWay and Bleecker Street. The film will chart a wild day in the life of a man on the edge, held together by the unconditional love of his daughter. It will also shoot on location in New York in January – Deadline
Crisis on Infinite Earths
The CW’s Elseworlds crossover has finished, but it ended with a reveal of the storyline for the next year’s team up – Crisis on Infinite Earths! Will that end up with all the various CW heroes being on the same Earth?
Ultraman
The Japanese superhero Ultraman is getting the reboot treatment outside its country of origin. U.S. transmedia producer Starlight Runner Entertainment has been tapped by Tokyo-based Tsuburaya Productions to build out the Ultraman mythology for the digital age outside of Japan, to include a possible live action streaming TV series. The original live action Ultra Q and Ultraman series that launched in 1966 featured a high-tech police force and their silver superhero Ultraman battling to save the Earth from invading aliens and giant monsters – THR
The Hyperions
Cary Elwes (The Princess Bride) is to star in The Hyperions for writer and director Jon McDonald and Justin Bell Productions. The indie drama portrays a professor who in 1960 invents a device, the Titan badge, that offers humans superpowers, which creates an unusual family of superheroes who rise to fame and prestige. But over time the family fractures and fast-forward to 1979 two original superheroes go to extraordinary lengths to get their Titan badges back.
