The Random – True Detective, Doctor Dolittle, Humans, The Dark Tower and more

  • AMC has picked up an eight-episode third season of Humans for premiere in 2018. Production will begin this autumn.
  • Universal Pictures’ Untitled Doctor Dolittle project, starring Robert Downey Jr., has a release date of 24th May 2019. It will be directed by Stephen Gaghan, the film is based on the books by Hugh Lofting.
  • Amber Heard is set to star in The Kind Worth Killing. Agnieszka Holland will direct the film, which is based on Peter Swanson’s 2015 novel. It follows Lily, a mysterious and stunning killer who meets Ted Severson on a late-night flight from London to Boston. Ted confesses that he’s had thoughts about murdering his unfaithful wife. Lily offers to help, and the two form a strange, twisted bond while plotting his wife’s demise – Deadline
  • O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) is joining the cast of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Ken Watanabe’s Monarch scientist character Dr. Ishiro Serizawa is also thought to be returning – Variety
  • The CW and Warner Bros. Television announced that Katie Cassidy will return to Arrow as the Black Siren for episodes #522 and #523 this season, and then continue in the same role as a series regular for Season Six.
  • Chad Kroeger (not the singer) and Bodhi addressed the San Clemente, California city council to request a 12-foot-tall statue of Fast & Furious star Paul Walker be erected on the city’s pier. You can see them in the video below.

  • Sony are working on a Venom movie. The plan is to have it rated R and set up Sony’s Marvel movie-verse, which will have no ties to the Marvel Studios one. It is due out in October 2018 and they’re also working on a Black Cat and Silver Sable movie – Collider
  • Footage from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower screened at CinemaCon. One scene saw Jake (Tom Taylor) telling his psychiatrist about his visions and there’s a quick shot of a photograph that appears to show an elaborate mountain resort. It’s a dead ringer for the Overlook Hotel, the creepy retreat where Jack Torrance slowly went insane in King’s classic novel “The Shining.” – Variety
  • Louis Herthum is becoming a series regular in season 2 of HBO’s Westworld. He plays the original Peter Abernathy, the father of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood).
  • Hellraiser: Judgment has been pushed back on the release schedule, but this is so it can get a theatrical release. So far the new date has yet to be released – FJP
  • Miles Teller (Whiplash, War Dogs) is set as the series lead for Amazon’s new drama series Too Old to Die Young, from Nicolas Winding Refn. Written by Refn (Neon Demon, Drive) and Ed Brubaker (Captain America: Winter Soldier, Westworld), Too Old to Die Young explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles by following killers’ existential journeys in becoming samurai – Deadline
  • Looks like there may be a third season of True Detective. Nic Pizzolatto has written at least the first two episodes and Emmy-winning writer-producer David Milch (Deadwood and NYPD Blue) is also involved – EW
