La La Land had a record breaking win at the Golden Globes

The City of Stars shone bright for Lionsgate last night as La La Land swept the board at the 74th Golden Globe Awards, winning in every category in which it was nominated and breaking the record for the most Golden Globes won by a film, a record set by One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1976.

You can see the full list of winners here.

As well as collecting Best Picture – Comedy/Musical, Best Director for Damien Chazelle, Best Actor – Comedy/Musical for Ryan Gosling, Best Actress – Comedy/Musical for Emma Stone, the film was also awarded Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Original Song for “City of Stars”.

The Globes marks another incredible achievement in what has been a stunning awards season so far for the film. La La Land’s accolades so far include Best Film wins at the New York Film Critics’ Circle and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards as well as a wealth of Screen Actors Guild, Writer’s Guild of America and London Critics’ Circle nominations.

Hillary reviewed the film at TIFF 2016 and said, “If you could put joy on a screen this is what it would look like.  The entire moviegoing experience is here in one film.  There is laughter, tears, great music, unmistakable talent.”

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, La La Land tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

Damien Chazelle’s follow up to his five-time Oscar-nominated Whiplash has garnered widespread praise from critics since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival last year.

La La Land will be released at over 600 screens across the UK on 12th January with previews from 9th January in what is Lionsgate widest ever release.
