Jessica Chastain is going to be Painkiller Jane
While she would have made a great Black Widow (although she played the character in a Jimmy Kimmel spoof) or Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jessica Chastain is only now becoming a comic book hero.
She has wanted to be one for a while, but in a surprising turn of events she is not going to be a Marvel or DC superhero. Instead she is going to play Painkiller Jane, a comic book heroine created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada for Event Comics in 1995.
In this version Chastain will play Jane Vasko, a New York City street cop who gets recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a major NYC drug and human trafficking ring. In a near death experience, Jane develops exceptional regenerative abilities that give her a unique indestructible advantage. With nothing to live for and no way to die, Painkiller Jane becomes an unstoppable force of nature seeking revenge to those who destroyed her life as she leaves a path of death and destruction in her wake.
I had pretty much forgotten about the character to be honest, and I am surprised that is the one Chastain is going with, but she could do great things with it. It will be good seeing her do an all out action movie.
There was a Painkiller Jane TV show back in 2007, that featured Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3) as Jane, but that was cancelled after one season.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the character in the film.
How do you feel about Jessica Chastain playing Painkiller Jane?
