J. Michael Straczynski’s Rising Stars is heading to the big screen

J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling, Ninja Assassin, Thor) has written lots of comics. One such title was Rising Stars. That was back in 1999 and it was a 24-issue series about 113 people (called “Specials”) born with special abilities following the appearance of a mysterious light in the sky above Pederson, Illinois. The series explored how society may react to the advent of superpowers, and how those who are Specials may react towards society and each other.

I got the collected edition and it is a fantastic read. Some great characters, cool powers and a fantastic story.

There is lots of potential for a film, or rather series of films, as there are many stories to tell.

MGM feel the same as they have optioned the Top Cow comic series. Straczynski is set to write the script, and Alex Gartner and Richard Suckle will produce for Atlas Entertainment.

Great news, especially the fact that Straczynski is involved in the writing.
