Hamnet is the new film directed by Chloé Zhao, from a screenplay she co-wrote with Maggie O’Farrell, based on O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name.

Hamnet tells the powerful love story that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet.

The film’s world premiere is scheduled for the Gala Presentations section at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September 2025 and will be given a limited cinema release in the United States on 27 November 2025, before expanding on 12 December. It opens in the UK on 9th January 2026.
