2000 Meters To Andriivka – Watch the trailer for the new documentary from the team behind 20 Days In Mariupol

Dogwoof has announced that the award-winning documentary 2000 Meters To Andriivka, directed by Mstyslav Chernov, is being released in UK and Irish Cinemas on 1st August 2025. The film received its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, where it won the Best Documentary Direction Award in the World Cinema category. Its UK premiere will take place on 18 June 2025 at Sheffield DocFest.

The film was recently screened at Cannes Film Festival as part of the festival’s opening special programme, “Ukraine Day” – a showcase of three films about the war in Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing conflict and the crucial role of filmmakers and journalists in documenting it.

From the team behind 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL, winner of Best Documentary at the 2024 Oscars® and BAFTA Awards, 2000 METERS TO ANDRIIVKA documents the toll of the Russia-Ukraine war from a personal and devastating vantage point. Following his historic account of the civilian toll in Mariupol, Mstyslav Chernov turns his lens towards Ukrainian soldiers — who they are, where they came from, and the impossible decisions they face in the trenches as they fight for every inch of their land.

Amid a failing counteroffensive in 2024, Chernov and his AP colleague Alex Babenko follow a Ukrainian brigade battling through approximately one mile of a heavily fortified forest on their mission to liberate the Russian-occupied village of Andriivka. Weaving together original footage, intensive Ukrainian Army bodycam video and powerful moments of reflection, 2000 METERS TO ANDRIIVKA reveals with haunting intimacy, the farther the soldiers advance through their destroyed homeland, the more they realise that, for them, this war may never end.

2000 METERS TO ANDRIIVKA transports viewers directly to the frontline for its entire duration. Shot with brutal immediacy and visceral clarity, it captures both the brutality of the war and the humanity behind it.

Dogwoof will release 2000 METERS TO ANDRIIVKA in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 1st August 2025.
