Yuja – Watch the trailer for Lorna Tucker’s Yuja Wang documentary

Cargo Film & Releasing and Snowstorm Productions have unveiled a new exclusive trailer for Lorna Tucker’s documentary “YUJA” – a film exploring the Grammy Award-winning pianist Yuja Wang.

The film, which sees director Lorna Tucker (Westwood: Punk. Icon. Activist., Call Me Kate) team up with Cinematographer and two-time Oscar ® nominee Seamus McGarvey (Nocturnal Animals, Anna Karenina), offers an intimate look at one of classical music’s most dynamic performers.

Described by The New York Times as a “daredevil pianist,” Yuja has captivated global audiences with her formidable technique, magnetic stage presence, and singular approach to performance. Granted unprecedented access, Tucker presents an observational portrait of the artist on and off stage, exploring the memories and creative forces that shape her work.

“Yuja Wang is a once-in-a-generation talent whose artistry transcends genres,” says director Lorna Tucker. “This film is a personal exploration of the elements that drive her distinct musical voice.”

Benedetta Pinelli, Commissioning Editor at Sky Arts, adds: “Through extraordinary access and Lorna’s beautifully inventive approach, the film offers a compelling, exhilarating portrait. We are delighted to give audiences a rare glimpse into the life of one of classical music’s most fearless innovators.”

The documentary will screen at the Curzon Soho followed by an in-person Q&A with Yuja and director Lorna Tucker (tickets here) on 11th September, followed by a limited theatrical run, and is slated to premiere on Sky Arts in the UK at the end of September, alongside broadcasts on ZDF/ARTE, SVT (Sweden), NTR (Netherlands), and Stageview TV in Canada. It has also screened at In-Edit Empordà this August as part of Spain’s Festival de Torroella.

YUJA is produced by Kat Mansoor and Florrie Priest for Snowstorm Productions, Craig Thompson for Ballinran Entertainment with Executive Producers David Piperni and Daniel Cantagallo for Cargo Film and Releasing. The film is Sky UK Original documentary, a United Kingdom – Canada Treaty Co-Production, produced in association with ZDF/ARTE, UK Global Screen Fund, Canada Media Fund, Stageview TV, Rogers Documentary Fund and produced with the film and television tax credit assistance from the Government of Ontario and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.
