Hannah John-Kamen will be Red Sonja

A new Red Sonja movie has been in development hell for a long time. Various directors and actors have been attached through the years.

However, things are moving closer to the big screen as Joey Soloway is directing the new film and co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo for Millennium. We also have news on who will be leading the film as THR report that Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and The Wasp, Killjoys, Tomb Raider) will be playing the red-haired warrior…or will the character just be Sonja now?

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” said Soloway in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

The character is closely linked with Conan the Barbarian and was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics in 1973, partially based on Robert E. Howard’s characters Red Sonya of Rogatino and Dark Agnes de Chastillon.

There are no details on the plot of the new movie, but I imagine it will heavily involve swords and/or sorcery!

Mark Canton (300) and Courtney Solomon (After) are producing alongside Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman of Campbell Grobman Films. Topple’s Andrea Sperling and Millennium’ Yariv Lerner, Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, Les Weldon, Joe Gatta, and Tanner Mobley are also producing.

Millennium’s Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson, and Trevor Short are exec producing along with Luke Lieberman on behalf of Red Sonja LLC, and Nick Barrucci of Dynamite Entertainment. Dorothy Canton is also an executive producer.

  1. This thing will be the same poor quality as Millennium’s Conan film.
