Take a look at Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy in Louis Wain

STUDIOCANAL, SUNNYMARCH, SHOEBOX, FILM4 & AMAZON STUDIOS have launched a first look at Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy in Louis Wain, as a host of British stars are added to the cast list.

Benedict Cumberbatch stars as British artist Louis Wain, famous for his distinctive paintings of cats that inspired hearts and minds around the world, in the extraordinary true story of a brilliant man inspired by both his love of the world and the love of his life Emily, played by Claire Foy.

Joining the previously announced Academy Award® nominee Cumberbatch, BAFTA Film and Television nominees Foy and Andrea Riseborough and BAFTA winner Toby Jones, are Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac, Vox Lux), Sharon Rooney (Dumbo, ‘My Mad Fat Diary’), Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake, ‘Southcliffe’) and Aimee Lou Wood (‘Sex Education’) as Louis Wain’s endearingly eccentric sisters.

Adeel Akhtar (The Big Sick, Pan, Four Lions, ‘Utopia’), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn, ‘Flowers’, ‘The Mighty Boosh’) and Asim Chaudhry (‘People Just Do Nothing’, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) further round out the impressive cast.

The film is directed by BAFTA nominated Will Sharpe (Channel 4’s critically acclaimed ‘Flowers’) and written by Sharpe & Simon Stephenson. Producing are Guy Heeley (Locke, Denial), Adam Ackland (‘Patrick Melrose’), Leah Clarke and Ed Clarke.

Principal photography began on August 19th, shooting on location and in-studio in and just outside London until mid-October.

LOUIS WAIN is produced by Sunnymarch and Shoebox Films and financed by STUDIOCANAL, Film4 and AMAZON STUDIOS. STUDIOCANAL will release in their territories UK, France, Germany, Australia/NZ, selling worldwide. AMAZON STUDIOS will release in the USA.

UTA, Independent Film Group alongside STUDIOCANAL negotiated the deal.
