The October Faction

Free Guy

20th Century Fox has attached Ryan Reynolds to star in Free Guy, with Shawn Levy poised to direct the film.

Free Guy is in the vein of The Truman Show, where a bank teller stuck in his routine discovers he’s a background character in a rather brutal open world, action-adventure video game and he is the only one capable of saving his world – Deadline

Seth Rogen in a Pickle movie

Seth Rogen will be a pickle maker for his next film at Sony Pictures. Cinematographer Brandon Trost is in talks to make his directing debut on the film, with Simon Rich writing the screenplay.

The film is based on Rich’s New Yorker novella and stars Rogen as Herschel Greenbaum, a struggling laborer who immigrates to America in 1918 with dreams of building a better life for his beloved family. One day, while working at his factory job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years. The brine preserves him perfectly and when he emerges in present day Brooklyn, he finds that he hasn’t aged a day. But when he seeks out his family, he is horrified to learn that his only surviving relative is his great grandson, Ben Greenbaum (also played by Rogen), a mild-mannered computer coder whom Herschel can’t even begin to understand – Variety

Limited Partners

Salma Hayek will star alongside Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne in Limited Partners, the Paramount Pictures comedy that Miguel Arteta will direct.

Haddish and Byrne play two hard-charging best girlfriends who build a juggernaut company and find their relationship tested when they are made a big buyout offer. Suddenly all the differences that made them the perfect odd-couple partners put them at war, threatening their business and personal relationships. Hayek plays the exec who makes the buyout offer, and becomes the corporate puppet master pulling the strings in creating acrimony among the partners – Deadline

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Bruce Dern is joining Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood following the death of star Burt Reynolds.

Dern will play George Spahn, the real-life rancher who owned the ranch where Charles Manson and his followers lived in the late 1960s. Reynolds was going to play the role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and attended a table read in June. He died Sept. 6, before he began filming on the project – THR

The Burnt Orange Heresy

Donald Sutherland is joining Giuseppe Capotondi’s The Burnt Orange Heresy, in which he will star as an enigmatic painter who becomes the target of an art-world heist. Claes Bang, Elizabeth Debicki and Mick Jagger also star.

The movie is based on the book of the same name by Charles Willeford THR

New Netflix Sci-Fi shows

Netflix has ordered three new sci-fi series, including one starring and executive produced by Kate Bosworth.

The shows are Bosworth-led The I-Land, plus Warrior Nun and October Faction.

  • The I-Land: When 10 people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are or how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home. They soon discover this world is not as it seems. Faced with the island’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves — or die as their worst ones.
  • October Faction: The show is ased on the IDW comic book series written by Steve Niles and follows globetrotting monster hunters Fred and Deloris Allen who, after the death of Fred’s father, return to their hometown in upstate New York with their teenage children Geoff and Viv. As the family adjusts, Fred and Deloris must hide their identities as members of a secret organization, and our heroes quickly discover that their new small-town setting isn’t as idyllic as it seems.
  • Warrior Nun: This one revolves around a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.

The Mule

Warner Bros. has announced that it will release Clint Eastwood’s next film, The Mule, on Dec. 14.

Eastwood stars as Earl Stone, a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. What he doesn’t know is that he is actually being employed to smuggle drugs, and while he quickly gains the favour of the cartel and better pay, he also catches the attention of the DEA.

A Star Is Born

Listen to Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga sing Shallow from the film.
