Ridley Scott says they need to move away from the Aliens in the next Alien prequel

Oh, Ridley Scott! How I loved Alien. Then along came Prometheus, which was beautiful to look at and did cover some deep philosophical ideas, but was a bit of a mess. That was followed by Alien: Covenant which did have a bit more Alien action, but gutted the very thing that made the creature so scary and mysterious (and also a lot less alien). It also had a bit of Android flute fingering, which was unexpected.

Why didn’t you just go with the original Prometheus script that would have led right into the original Alien film?

But you are going to make everything great again with the third prequel, aren’t you? What’s that, you’ve spoken to EW about it? Let me hear what you had to say….

We are going to make another, we are. I think what we have to do is gradually drift away from the alien stuff. People say, ‘You need more alien, you need more face pulling, need more chest bursting,’ so I put a lot of that in ‘Covenant’ and it fitted nicely. But I think if you go again you need to start finding another solution that’s more interesting. I think AI is becoming much more dangerous and therefore more interesting.

….

Okay, fair enough. It’s your film and I always say that fans shouldn’t direct the story of something they initially loved (Arrow fans of the whole Olicity thing, I am looking at you – I used to love Arrow), but I cannot help but feel you don’t actually like Alien and had studied the George Lucas school of making prequels. Although I would not be surprised to see the Alien series tied into Blade Runner. Then you have to make sure it does tie up wit the beginning of Alien!

Is it just me?

We could have had that Alien film that Neill Blomkamp was working on – the one with Ripley and Hicks. That sounded good, or at least was intriguing, but that was killed off like the crew of the Nostromo!

What would you like to see in the next Alien prequel? Do you think Ridley Scott is going in the right direction with the series?

Take a listen to what we think should have happened with the Alien films below.
