The New Mutants film will be like “Stephen King meets John Hughes!” Watch a new animatic

20th Century Fox have never quite got the X-Men movies right. It’s always as if they are not based on the actual comics, but more on somebody listening to someone else describing them. They never have that spark of greatness that they should have.

There is a New Mutants film in the works, but it has all been a bit quite. Josh Boone is directing and co-writing the screenplay with Knate Lee and Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber, but no other official announcements have been made. There has been some casting rumours – Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) as Magik, but that’s all we have had so far.

However, this new storyboard animatic has popped up (thanks to ComingSoon) that shows the team fighting Demon Bear! That spiritual evil is said to be the big bad of the new film, which is due out in 2018. Oh, and Lockheed the Dragon is also in it.

The film is also being described as a “Stephen King meets John Hughes” style horror movie. That sounds interesting to me and it would be good if they go a different way than the previous Mutant movies. Does the John Hughes reference also mean this will be set in the 80s?

Check out the animatic below and share your thoughts in the comments.
