Jimmy – The James Stewart biopic starts production and adds more cast to the ensemble
Filming began on the 1st September in West Cork, Ireland for Jimmy—the highly anticipated, upcoming theatrical release from Burns & Co. Productions.
The production also announced it has added more star power to the already impressive ensemble cast. Kara Killmer is in the role of Lady Julia; Neal McDonough is Stewart’s father, Alexander; Rob Riggle as U.S. Army Colonel Terrill; Jemma Donovan is Ginger Rogers; and Christopher McDonald is the legendary actor Lionel Barrymore.
“There is something special about the way our amazing cast has immediately connected deeply with our story and with one another,” says Aaron Burns, director and producer of JIMMY. “Being in Ireland allows us to have the feel of England in the 1940s, and with our beautiful costumes and sets, I feel like we’ve stepped back into Jimmy Stewart’s world.”
Burns & Co. had previously announced KJ Apa will play the beloved titular character, James Stewart. Other announced cast include Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez, and Jen Lilley as Gloria Stewart.
JIMMY beautifully captures James Stewart’s transformative years in the 1940s. From Hollywood’s award-winning leading man (and most eligible bachelor) to enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps. From World War II commanding officer to love-struck GI. From war hero to a broken man, Jimmy Stewart came home lost.
Until It’s A Wonderful Life found him.
“Jimmy lived the lives of a hundred men, with courage and conviction,” says Justin Strawhand, screenwriter and producer of JIMMY. “Working with Aaron, our producing team, and our incredibly talented cast and crew to bring his story to screen is the privilege of a lifetime.”
David Cook, Angela Galgani Sullivan, and John Norton of Redted Media join Burns and Strawhand in producing JIMMY.
Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, one of Jimmy Stewart’s daughters, is an executive producer.
