Carl Reiner has died

Carl Reiner – comedian, actor, director, screenwriter, publisher and legend – has died at the age of 98. He died on Monday night at his home in Beverly Hills, surrounded by his family, TMZ report.

In 1950, he was cast in Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows and worked with the likes of Mel Brooks and Neil Simon.

He teamed up with Brooks for the 2000 Year Old Man sketch which blossomed into a series of 5 comedy albums and a 1975 animated television special.

Reiner developed a show that turned into The Dick Van Dyke Show in which he also co-starred.

He directed and co-wrote four films for Steve Martin – The Jerk in 1979, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid in 1982, The Man with Two Brains in 1983, and All of Me in 1984.

In 2000, Reiner was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center. In 2001 he starred as Saul Bloom in Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007).

He wrote a number of books and starred in It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World (1963), The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming (1966) – and directed – Where’s Poppa? (1970), Oh, God! (1977), All of Me (1984) – many other films and TV shows.

He is a stone-cold legend and he will be missed.
