Oscar Isaac may join Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation


Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrivial, Blade Runner 2049) is working on a new adaptation of DuneLegendary acquired film and TV rights to the Frank Herbert novels Dune in 2016 and they plan on making multiple films.

The latest piece of casting news has Oscar Isaac in talks to play Duke Leto Atreides, the father of Paul Atreides.

Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which noble houses, in control of individual planets, owe allegiance to the Padishah Emperor, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, whose noble family accepts the stewardship of the desert planet Arrakis. As this planet is the only source of the oracular spice melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe, control of Arrakis is a coveted—and dangerous—undertaking. The story explores the multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the Empire confront each other in a struggle for the control of Arrakis and its spice.

Timothée ChalametRebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Dave Bautista have already been cast.

Chalamet will be playing Paul Atreides. Kyle MacLachlan played the same character in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation. Ferguson will portray Atreides’ mother, Lady Jessica, Skarsgård will play Baron Harkonnen, Rampling is Reverend Mother Mohiam and Bautista will play Glossu Rabban Harkonnen also known as The “Beast” Rabban and nephew of Baron Harkonnen.

It truly is shaping up to be a remarkable cast.
