Craig Gillespie may direct Disney’s Cruella de Vil movie starring Emma Stone

Alex Timbers (Mozart of the Jungle) was set to direct Emma Stone in Disney’s Cruella de Vil movie. However, he had to bow out due to scheduling issues.
The studio is now in talks with Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Fright Night, Lars and the Real Girl) to helm the project, which is being described as an origin movie of the character. Stone will play Cruella De Vil and it will be set in the early 1980s with a punk vibe.
Andrew Gunn is producing Cruella with Marc Platt and Kristin Burr.
De Vil was first seen in the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians. Glenn Close played her in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes.
