Netflix cancels Marvel’s Luke Cage

The other week came news that Iron Fist had been cancelled. Then, last Friday Daredevil Season 3 was released and it was fantastic. A great story, cool action, the return of Kingpin and Agent Poindexter was incredible.

However, it turns out Netflix has cancelled Luke Cage after two seasons.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Marvel and the streaming service said on Friday. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

This was surprising as last week the third season seemed to be going ahead. It seems that, according to Deadline, detailed drafts for the first half of the third season were delivered to Marvel and Netflix last week.

Some executives had issues with the more developed scripts. Add into that changes with the showrunner, episodes dropping from 13 to 10 and creative differences finished it all off.

Sad news as season 2 left us in an interesting place with Luke Cage.

Part of me hopes this is actually all a smokescreen for Heroes for Hire and Daughters of the Dragon shows, but I doubt it.

Disney is starting their own streaming service, so maybe Luke and Danny will return there at some point.

Jessica Jones and The Punisher have both been renewed for new seasons, now we just have to wait and hear about Daredevil Season 4!
