Iron Fist no more! There are no plans for a third season

The first season of Iron Fist was a mess, but the second did improve on things. Even so, it still didn’t quite work. The last couple of episodes did ramp things up and I love how things ended with it. I do feel that from the beginning they should have amped up the fantastical elements of the character – actually show the dragon, show more of the legacy characters and work more on all of the fight scenes.

However, it looks like we won’t be getting a third season as Marvel and Netflix released this statement:

Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix.

Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners.

We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership, we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the Immortal Iron Fist will live on.

That does not mean we won’t be seeing Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick back as Danny Rand and Colleen Wing. They could crop up in other Marvel / Netflix shows or there is also a chance for a Heroes for Hire or Daughters of the Dragon mini-series somewhere down the line. Then there is the fact that Disney is starting their own streaming service, which could see some of these characters appearing there.

A third season of the Krysten Ritter led Jessica Jones was ordered in April and a third season of Luke Cage is expected to get the formal go-ahead any day now. Daredevil‘s third season is about to launch on Netflix on October 19.
