Venom faces a S.W.A.T. Team and the Wilhelm scream in a new clip

Tom Hardy stars as Eddie Brock, the host for Venom. The film also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate and Woody Harrelson. We get to see Venom in all his glory in this new trailer, along with other symbiotes.

One of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters takes center stage as Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) becomes the host for the alien symbiote Venom. As a journalist, Eddie has been trying to take down the notorious founder of the Life Foundation, genius Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed) – and that obsession ruined his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams). Upon investigating one of Drake’s experiments, the alien Venom merges with Eddie’s body, and he suddenly has incredible new superpowers, as well as the chance to do just about whatever he wants. Twisted, dark, unpredictable, and fueled by rage, Venom leaves Eddie wrestling to control dangerous abilities that he also finds empowering and intoxicating. As Eddie and Venom need each other to get what they’re looking for, they become more and more intertwined – where does Eddie end and Venom begin?

The new clip below shows Venom fighting a SWAT team. I love that they have kept Venom the big hulking character from the comics, but this all seems like an action scene from a 90s movie. The use of the classic Wilhelm scream, while always welcome, is so blatant it just seems silly.

I really don’t know about this one. I think Tom Hardy is great, I’ve always liked the character of Venom, but this just looks like it is going to be ultimately disappointing and a missed opportunity.

I hope I am wrong.

Just thought, if Peter Parker is resurrected in Avengers 4 but still on Titan or another Alien planet, they could have done a proper origin for the Venom symbiote similar to how it first appeared in the old Secret Wars mini-series. Damn it!

Directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Scott Rosenberg & Jeff Pinkner, the Venom film is due out on 3rd October in the UK and then hits the US with a PG-13 rating on 5th October 2018.
