"No matter where you go, there you are."

X-Men: Dark Phoenix gets a poster

X-Men: Dark Phoenix features Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

The film also stars Jessica Chastain.

The first trailer is due out later today but a new poster has been released ahead of that.

Veteran screenwriter Simon Kinberg is making his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix, which he is also producing with Bryan Singer, Hutch Parker, and Lauren Schuler Donner.

Set in 1992, about 10 years after the events of last year’s X-Men: ApocalypseDark Phoenix opens with the X-Men, including Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), in a new, unexpected role: national heroes. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) even lands on the cover of Time magazine. But his growing ego puts the team at risk. “Pride is starting to get the better of him, and he is pushing the X-Men to more extreme missions,” Kinberg says. After they’re dispatched to space for a rescue mission, a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean (Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner)— the Phoenix.

I really wish they had not rushed the Dark Phoenix storyline again. I would have loved to see the build-up through a few films before unleashing the Dark Phoenix upon us.

  1. It’ll be interesting to see how the X-Men are integrated into the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of Fox assets.

    • Indeed. I wonder if they will do that or just start fresh?
