Captain Marvel gets a trailer

Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film is not going to be the normal kind of origin movie. When the film starts, Carol already has her powers and she has left her earthly life behind to join an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law’s enigmatic commander.

Set for release on 8th March 2019, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. An all-star collective of accomplished writers penned the screenplay, including Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive & Carly Mensch, and Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck.

The film stars Academy Award winner Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, and Jude Law. Reprising their roles from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy are Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, and returning once again to a Marvel Studios film will be Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson.

The trailer does a good job of showing us little bits and pieces, without spoiling the main plot. We also see Carol in the iconic mask/helmet from the comics, Skrulls, Ronan, Starforce and more. Then there are the de-aged Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg during their early years in SHIELD.

I must admit to feeling a little underwhelmed by the trailer, mainly because it was a teaser and there was no particular moment that made me go “wow!” However, I love the character and liked how they get the 1990s vibe going throughout it and I am intrigued by the fact we will be learning all about Captain Marvel alongside Carol Danvers!
