Jennifer Connelly will be the female lead in Top Gun 2

Tom Cruise has confirmed the news that Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, A Beautiful Mind, Requiem for a Dream) will be the female lead in the Top Gun sequel.

Cruise said, “when you see the film, you’ll see why she’s perfect for it. She has such a very talented, very vibrant, and… we’re just going to have a great cast. [It’s] gonna be a lot of fun.”

The sequel is called Top Gun: Maverick and Tom Cruise is back as Maverick. Previous rumours have suggested that the film will involve drone technology and fifth-generation fighters, and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

Val Kilmer will return to play Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel, while Miles Teller (Whiplash) has been cast as the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege.

Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion, is directing. Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer are writing the script. The film currently has a release date of 12th July 2019.
