Miles Teller will be Goose’s son in the Top Gun sequel

Tom Cruise recently shared the news that the Top Gun sequel had begun filming. Cruise is set to reprise his role of Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

There is no word on the plot, but the full title is said to be Top Gun: Maverick. Previous rumours have suggested that it will involve drone technology and fifth-generation fighters, and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting.

The original film, directed by Tony Scott, co-starred Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis and Anthony Edwards. Val Kilmer will return to play Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel.

Variety is reporting that Miles Teller (Whiplash) has been cast as the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege.

Last week, it was reported that Cruise tested with Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult for the role.

There is no other casting news, but Joseph Kosinski, who worked with Cruise on Oblivion, is directing. Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer are writing the script. The film currently has a release date of 12th July 2019.

We talked about what could possibly happen in the sequel in an episode of the After The Ending podcast I do. You can listen to that below.
