Solo: A Star Wars Story is Number One at the UK and Irish Box Office


Solo: A Star Wars Story was the number one movie in the UK and Ireland over the long weekend.

The film, which is the next instalment in the Disney and Lucasfilm Star Wars franchise, is the second stand-alone Star Wars film from the studios following 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and has been the number one choice for cinema-goers this weekend as the film dethroned Twentieth Century Fox’s’ Deadpool 2 to be the top film at the UK and Irish box office, taking a total of £7.6 million in the UK and Ireland over 5 days.

Solo: A Star Wars Story has opened to critical acclaim, particularly for Alden Ehrenreich as the young space smuggler Han Solo winning him praise from UK critics for his performance and portrayal of the iconic character.

The film, directed by Ron Howard also stars Woody Harrelson Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.
