UPDATED: Kristen Wiig will play Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2

Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins are coming back for Wonder Woman 2, which is set in the 80s in the Cold War. Although that does go against what was set up in the previous films when Wonder Woman said she stayed out of the affairs of mankind after the events in World War I. I suppose it could mean we will be getting some super-spy type action with the character staying hidden and out of the public eye.
It seems that longtime Wonder Woman foe, Cheetah, will be the big bad of the sequel and it seems that Kristen Wiig (SNL, Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) is the current frontrunner for the role. She is not someone I would have thought to play the role, but it could work….maybe?
Wiig is normally known for her comedic roles, while Cheetah is a very physical kind of character. If she does get the role it will be interesting to see how Wiig plays it.
The character was originallly created by William Moulton Marston and first appeared in Wonder Woman #6 in 1943. There have been a number of versions of Cheetah in the comics, including the characters Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, Barbara Anne Minerva, and Sebastian Ballesteros. Cheetah has the abilities of the animal she was named after.
UPDATE 9th March 2018: Patty Jenkins has confirmed that Kristen Wiig will be playing Cheetah.
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot pic.twitter.com/Gn0jICiIAH
