Marvel’s Black Widow movie may be moving forward as a screenwriter has been brought on board

It is surprising that Marvel has not brought us a Black Widow film yet. She is a great character and Scarlett Johansson has worked wonders with the role. It would have made sense to bring us a film in Phase 2 to expand on Natasha’s backstory that was hinted at in the Captain America and Avengers movies, but the success of Wonder Woman has probably made the studio finally take notice. She has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man 2 so there is huge amounts of potential for her own solo movie.

However, it seems that things are slowly moving ahead as Variety is reporting that Jac Schaeffer is working on a script. Sources say this is still very early development, as the film has no greenlight, but it is a step in the right direction.

Schaeffer wrote and directed 2009’s TiMER and she also wrote the recent Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. She also wrote Nasty Women, a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, which is due out this year.

I can also see a Black Widow movie working well once the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War is over. Having a more grounded, spy-based kind of film will complement the likes of Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp and whatever else Marvel Studios have planned.

What would you like to see in a Black Widow movie?
