DeWanda Wise joins the Captain Marvel movie

DeWanda Wise, star of Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It Netflix show, will star opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel. There is currently no word on which character Wise will be playing.

Could she be playing Monica Rambeau? That could possibly be it as the character was another Captain Marvel in the comic books, before she went through a few other code names before settling on Spectrum. I always like the character especially in the Agents of H.A.T.E. comic series.

This is her first major movie role, but she has previously starred in the series Shots Fired and Underground.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck will be behind the camera. The duo directed Mississippi Grind and Half Nelson.

Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman are writing the script, which follows Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), an air force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy project and flight.

Jude Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers. Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One) is playing the big bad of the piece.

If DeWanda is playing Monica Rambeau then we will be getting three Captain Marvels in the film!

Kevin Feige is producing the film.

Samuel L. Jackson will be in it as Nick Fury and he will have both eyes for this one because the film is set in the early 1990s. Feige has also confirmed that the shapeshifting Skrulls will be bad guys for this one.

The film is due out on 8th March 2019.
