"No matter where you go, there you are."

Check out Taron Egerton as Robin Hood in first images

Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Sing, Eddie The Eagle) is playing Robin, who returns from the Crusades with PTSD and decides to help the downtrodden folk of Nottingham. The war-hardened Crusader and a Moorish commander take the fight to the corrupt English crown. Jamie Foxx is playing Little John and Tim Minchin is playing Friar Tuck.

The film also stars Jamie Dornan, Eve Hewson, Ben Mendelsohn and Paul Anderson.

Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) is directing the film.

“You don’t become a legend for 800 years if you’ve just stolen a few bags of money from rich people to give to the poor,” Bathurst told EW. “In my mind, Robin Hood was this sort of seriously militarized anarchist revolutionary, a freedom thinker and a truth seeker. And the more I got into the story, it just became startling how utterly relevant it is to what’s going on in society now.”

Like me, many of you may be thinking “why are they doing another Robin Hood movie?” Turns out Egerton felt the same way – “I was approached not long after the first Kingsman movie had come out, and my initial response, to be totally honest, was ‘Why?’ [But] Otto told me he wanted to do something entirely revisionist, something that can’t be tied down to a medieval universe. The first act of the movie, these scenes crusading in Syria, were written like something from The Hurt Locker. It was fantastic, and that was enough to convince me.”

Sounds interesting and I look forward to seeing some footage from the film.

Robin Hood is due out on 21st September 2018.
