Amazon and Warner Bros. are talking about a Lord of the Rings TV show

With Game of Thrones drawing to a close after the next season, there is going to be a great big fantasy sized gap in the TV listings.

While there are many great fantasy novels and comic books that still need to be adapted it seems that The Lord of the Rings could be getting a TV adaptation.

Warner Bros. Television and the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a series based on the novels. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is said by sources with knowledge of the situation to be personally involved in the negotiations, which are still in very early stages. No deal has been set according to Variety.

It seems an odd way to go as Peter Jackson’s films did such a great job. I know the Fellowship of the Ring was released back in 2001 (where has that time gone?) but this still feels too soon! However, it is still very early days and it is possible that this could also include the other works of Tolkien. Imagine if they started with the early tales from the Silmarillion and then worked their way through the major events throughout the many years of Middle Earth.

How would you feel about a Lord of the Rings TV show?
