Joe Cornish’s The Kid Who Would Be King may have Patrick Stewart and Rebecca Ferguson

Joe Cornish’s 2011 Attack The Block was a great film. I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I hoped, but it was extremely well made, had a great cast and some cool aliens. It also gave us a little Star Wars / Doctor Who crossover in the shape of John Boyega and Jodie Whitaker.

Cornish is busy with his next movie, The Kid Who Would Be King. It already stars Louis Serkis, the son of Andy Serkis, in the lead role, and he is joined by Tom Taylor (The Dark Tower) Rhianna Dorris (Secret Life of Boys), Angus Imrie (Kingdom) and newcomer Dean Chaumoo.

The film is an action-adventure movie about a band of young kids who embark on an epic quest to thwart a Medieval menace named Morgana who is the half-sister of King Arthur.

Sir Patrick Stewart and Rebecca Ferguson are in negotiations to star.

Serkis will play Alex, a young British boy who stumbles upon the famous sword known as Excalibur, while Taylor will play his friend Lance. Imrie would play young Merlin, while Stewart would play the older incarnation of Merlin.

Ferguson is nearing a deal to play the villainous Morgana, while Irish actress Denise Gough (Guerrilla) will play Alex’s mother, who is raising the boy by herself.
