"No matter where you go, there you are."

Shazam will be the next DC movie to begin production

It looks like we will be seeing Billy Batson transform into the Big Red Cheese in a couple of years time as DC’s next movie to begin production will be Shazam.

Shazam used to be called Captain Marvel, but as he was a DC Comics character that eventually got changed. He is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking the magic word “SHAZAM” (acronym of six “immortal elders”: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury), can transform himself into a costumed adult with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight, and other abilities.

According to THR, filming will begin in January or February 2018 with a likely release in 2019. David Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) is directing the film for Warner Bros.’s sister division, New Line.

With Aquaman currently filming you would have thought it would be another member of the Justice League, but The Flash was delayed due to it lacking a director while a sequel to Wonder Woman is only in the early treatment writing stage. Joss Whedon is overseeing post-production and re-shoots on Justice League and won’t be ready to tackle a Batgirl film until that is released, A sequel to Suicide Squad, which is closing in on a director, is eyeing a mid-2018 start.

It is not clear whether Dwayne Johnson will play Black Adam in the Shazam movie. That character is one of the main villains for Shazam, but he will be getting his own movie at some point.

Who would you like to see play Billy and who could play Shazam?

  1. He’ll always be Captain Marvel to me; SHAZAM is just the magic word he speaks to transform.

In terms of who should play him, they’ll probably get a Stranger Things kid to play Billy and goodness only knows who for the Capt. It would be good to see an overtly muscle bound Capt. since there isn’t the need for an alter-ego like there is with Superman.
