Randall Park

Some great casting news for Ant-Man and the Wasp as the always excellent Randall Park (Fresh Off The Boat) has been cast as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent James “Jimmy” Woo.

Could Marvel be setting up Agents of Atlas for some point in the future? Who knows, but as the craziness of Guardians of the Galaxy worked so well, it could happen.

At this point some of you are asking, “what are the Agents of Atlas?” I’m glad you asked.

Agents of A.T.L.A.S. was a fantastic comic from a few years back that featured Jimmy as the team leader. He was joined by a Spaceman, a Siren, a Mermaid, a Robot and a Gorilla. That should be enough to make you want to see that team. However, the characters were Bob Grayson (aka The Uranian), Venus, Namora, M-11 and Gorilla Man. It was so much fun and they were all great characters.

In the comic books James Woo’s family ancestry dates back to the Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan. Over the years the Mongol Empire evolved into the Atlas Foundation in more contemporary times. Woo is the FBI agent assigned in 1958 to oversee the 1950s superhero team the Avengers, a short-lived predecessor of the later, more established team of that name. Woo attempted a secret raid of a group identified as The Atlas Foundation. Going AWOL and taking several other willing agents with him, he infiltrated an Atlas Foundation location, resulting in all the recruits being killed. Woo was critically burned and lost higher brain function. The former 1950s Avenger Gorilla-Man, by now also a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, gave the organization a classified record of the 1950s team, of which S.H.I.E.L.D. had no prior knowledge. Gorilla-Man rescues Woo with the aid of fellow 1950s teammates M-11 and Marvel Boy, who restores Woo to his 1958 self.

I have no idea how big a role Woo will have in the story, but it is great to know that he will be involved in some way.

Filming on Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently underway and it is due out on July 6th, 2018.
